Biological Program Improvements in Virginia

Since 1988, VMRC has been collecting biological samples from the state’s commercial and recreational fisheries. In 2008, ACCSP funded a project to enhance the biological collection program with the purchase of updated electronic measuring boards. The funds from this project were also used to modernize the current database to one with more flexibility and accessibility. This new system design proved to be more streamlined and efficient with other fisheries management processes. This new database and enhanced equipment worked to maintain the goals of the biological collection program and the data collection standards of the ACCSP.
